ABOUT LIZ

Now retired, I photograph nature's beauty in places like Alaska, Canada, Costa Rica, and in Florida, where I live. It is with the same gratitude and enthusiasm that I introduce my photos in a different venue... .

For some photographers, a bio might not be too hard to write. It seems as if most of them begin by saying they always wanted to be a photographer. As for me, photography was the furthest thing from my mind. First woman Major League Baseball player maybe, but not a photographer.

Enter happenstance...

In the mid 1980s I bought a point-and-shoot film camera so I could take photos of my pets. Fast forward a few years to when I won a rose garden contest held by the local newspaper, after which the Home and Garden section editor convinced me to profile other gardens for the newspaper. I still had only my point-and-shoot film camera for my first story and photos, and then came another story, and another...well, you get the picture.

In order for me to get the picture, or pictures, I bought an SLR camera. I learned to write and shoot on the fly, writing and illustrating one story after another. It wasn't long before I became a full-time journalist.

How I became a full-time photographer is an even whackier story.

A friend of mine supplied power and photography for a concert series produced by the city of Palmdale in Southern California. He had some powerful problems a day before the concert and wanted to know if I could take over his photography duties at the concert. Okay... I had no experience... but why not?

So I photographed a Tom Jones concert performance (with on-stage lighting I wasn't used to), crowd shots and meet-and-greet photos. Before the concert, I shot a photo of Tom Jones, and wrote a side story for the newspaper.

I shot another concert, and another, then events for the city. Soon I shot for the neighboring city of Lancaster as well. I also became the photographer for the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds' 11-day fair run, and interim events. Add to that the events produced by High Desert Medical Group, and, for a few years, I was the team photographer for the Lancaster JetHawks, a California League (minor league) baseball team.

There was also a publication produced for Antelope Valley Union High School District with my then fellow journalist, and now husband, Rich Breault.

For nearly two decades I was fortunate to have a career as an event photographer and photojournalist, which expanded to a magazine published by the Antelope Valley Press, the same newspaper where it all began.

During the years I lived in Southern California's high desert, I discovered much beauty to photograph -- including spectacular sunrises and sunsets, wildflowers and wildlife.

Now retired, I photograph nature's beauty in places like Alaska, Canada, Costa Rica, and in Florida, where I live. It is with the same gratitude and enthusiasm that I introduce my photos in a different venue...
